Mr. Rodney B. Yantis, MLA, RAC Director, and Courtney Poirier Chicola, PhD, postdoctoral researcher, presented at the Esri Imagery and Remote Sensing Educators Summit on May 15, 2025.

Mr. Yantis served as a panelist during the discussion on Evolving GIS & Remote Sensing Education. The discussion focused on the following questions -

- As technologies evolve, what foundational concepts remain and what gets replaced?

- Will remote sensing and GIS merge into a unified field of geospatial science?

- How will AI affect educational practice?

Dr. Chicola presented a lightning talk on Integrating Remote Sensing and GIS Education, focusing on Teaching Python & GeoAI through Project-Based GIS Learning in ArcGIS Pro. This lightning talk showcases a case study from an undergraduate course that is part of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s GIS Certificate Program.
