Emergency Response

Natural Disaster Data Mining

As we all know, Louisiana is no stranger to natural disasters. Satellite imagery enables natural disaster assessment and restoration to begin immediately. Our goal has been to acquire imagery and get reliable results to the agency managers responsible for implementing state restoration projects as quickly as possible.

26th Annual Disaster Response/Data Mining Geospatial Workshop

June 5 - 6, 2025

Louisiana Immersive Technologies Enterprise (LITE) Center

537 Cajundome Blvd. Lafayette, LA 70506

The workshop aims to promote geospatial coordination during hurricane and other disaster season events (i.e. Wildland fires), identify points of contact, and share information about data portals and resources. Presentations will cover coordination related to hurricane and other disaster season event preparation, emergency response operations, ongoing recovery efforts, and an overview of the data clearinghouses, applications, and data acquisitions of federal and state agencies which collect and host geospatial data. This year, speakers will be given the opportunity to engage participants by illustrating their (individual and/or agency) involvement in response to Hurricane Katrina and/or Rita 20 years earlier. Presenters will be encouraged to share how their programs have advanced in all avenues of disaster response over the last 20 years and highlights from the 2024 storm season.

*Workshop is free, but registration for workshop and lunch is required

International Charter

The International Charter is an agreement between all nations that, in the event of a disaster that affects the human population, the use of everyone’s satellites becomes available. Our director, Brent Yantis, is the program manager and is charged with “activating” the charter should our region need assistance.
