RAC Participates in Science Day for High School Students

On Friday, October 18, 2024, we hosted nearly 700 high school students at Science Day 2024. Students came from 21 high schools across 14 cities, experiencing activities led by departments and schools throughout our campus. This event gave them a chance to engage directly with our students and faculty, discovering the exciting academic and career pathways we offer in STEM. As part of the School of Geosciences exhibit, the Regional Application Center and LouisianaView accompanied by colleagues from USGS was able to do outreach with the students sharing STEM related research and application topics with a focus in Earth Observation and Geospatial Technologies. We featured an Earth as Art gallery and hands-on floor puzzles, along with engaging outreach materials such as the Factory Earth game posters, USGS factsheets, Electromagnetic Spectrum books, and Echo the Bat books. Students also explored landscape formation with our interactive stream table, participated in Kahoot games on Landsat and Earth Observation topics, and learned about 3D-printed geospatial tools through our STELLA units and TerraROVER. Students were able to take home a frustrationless flyer that was provided by the NASA Aren Program to the Regional Application Center.
